Apprenticeship Process
The SilverBow JATC within the UA Local 41 Union will be accepting new applications for apprenticeship bi-annually starting January 1st, through June 30th, only through our online platform linked below. The purpose of this application period is to establish a hiring roster for any possible apprenticeship openings that may occur in the plumbing, HVAC, pipefitting, and welding industry for the following counties in the state of Montana: Beaverhead, Blaine, Broadwater, Cascade, Chouteau, Deer Lodge, Gallatin, Granite, Hill, Jefferson, Judith Basin, Lewis & Clark, Liberty, Madison, Meagher, Park, Phillips, Pondera, Powell, Silver Bow, Sweet Grass, Teton, Toole, and Valley.
Our apprenticeship program is 5 years in length. During this time, apprentices work a full-time position for one of our signatory contractors, and attend classes online and at our training center. Apprentices will work a minimum of 7,500 hours on the job, and attend a minimum of 450 hours of classroom instruction during the term of the apprenticeship.
Apprentices are paid at 50% of the current Journeyperson scale ($46.45) and receive a pay increase of 5% the current Journeyperson scale every 6 months. Apprentices also receive paid health insurance and two pensions in addition to wages.

How it works
Step 1
The first step is to apply for the apprenticeship program. You will need to have the required documents to attach to your application when you apply. You can scan the documents or take clear pictures with your phone. You can also attach a resume or any other documents.
Step 2
After your application is submitted, you will be scheduled to take a two-part exam. The math exam will cover basic math, fractions, pre-algebra, and some basic geometry, while the other exam is a basic knowledge exam. You will receive the exam date and time at the email address you provided in your application. You can expect to receive the email approximately 1-2 weeks after the application period ends. If you do not receive an email, please contact our office. The exams will be administered at our training in Butte, MT.
Step 3
After you take the 2 part exam, you will be notified by email of your exam results. Applicants who pass both parts of the exam will move on to the interview process. Applicants who fail one or both parts of the exam will not move to the interview process, and can re-apply if they choose to.
Applicants who move on to the interview process will be given a date and time for their scheduled interview via email. Applicants who are interviewed and meet the minimum required ranking score will be placed on a hiring list. Applicants will be placed in order of how they scored on testing and their interview.
After an applicant is placed on the hiring list, they will stay on the list for 2 years or until they recieve a job offer. If an applicant declines 2 job offers, they will be removed from the hiring list.
After being placed on the hiring list, an applicant will then wait for a job offer. When a contractor calls to request an apprentice, the person who is at the top of the list will be offered the job first. An applicant who accepts a job offer will then be entered into the apprenticeship program.
